Mission Statement

'The Magic If' is a concept borrowed from 20th Century theatre practitioner, Constantin Stanislavsky. Actors were asked to wonder what the lives of characters they portrayed felt like 'if' they themselves found themselves in the same circumstances. What if I was a soldier fighting for my life on the battle field? What if I was the leader of a country having to make a difficult political decision? What if I was a parent having to make important choices for my children's lives?

"The Magic If" seeks to take the concept of 'the what if' and use it to examine what is possible within arts communities. What if we could unite our arts communities? What if it were possible to collaborate across genres? What would happen if we could link a music event with a theatre event? Or a visual arts event with a dance event? Or all of them together? What if we could burst isolated bubbles of creativity and find a way to celebrate, support and grow our arts? If networks can be created, conversations can be had, more opportunities developed and possible ideas made into tangible realities. A healthy, sustainable collaborative arts culture for our communities for both artists and audiences is the goal of 'The Magic If'.
